SDCC Jock Exclusive badge Vs Standard badge from Planet Replicas

At San Diego Comic Con 2017 there were a few 'Exclusives' to be obtained but the most wanted, was the Jock badge from Planet Replicas, of which, he had 10 at the 2000 AD Booth.

His signing was at 11:00 on the Saturday of the convention weekend and what a queue he had over that hour, which went on a wee bit longer than that, which kept the fans happy.

The San Diego badge is much lighter, coming in at around 287g, while the standard badge is around 471g. It's not all down to the weight though, as you will see from the following pictures.

The exclusive is a flat badge, while the standard is thicker, due to the convex nature of the curve that it has.

The San Diego exclusive is on the left in the following pictures and don't forget, click on the first to see the slideshow.

I was luckily at San Diego and saw Jock at the booth but the person in front of me grabbed number 10 from Jock. I held it together and didn't let on how heartbroken I was, in fact is was quiet funny really, when you think about it!

Here I am pretending to be at the front of the queue.

And here's me laughing about losing out on the badge!

How I got my badge is another story, which I did tell on the Everything Comes Back To 2000 AD Progcast after I returned home from the convention. If you see me at a con, ask and I may tell you about it!

I must add that Jock is an absolute delight and entertained all who queued up for him, with chat and sketches.

Jock Dredd badge by Planet Replicas

Jock is one of the best loved artists who has graced the pages of 2000 AD. Mainly known for his Judge Dredd work but he also worked on Tor Cyan and Lenny Zero before he was taken from our pages, across the pond, to work on iconic characters for DC, Marvel and Vertigo. Our loss but it's great for him, as his art is being seen by many more people, who can then become fans of his.

Before the Karl Urban Dredd film hit the screens, he had done a few images of a movie style Dredd. These were posted online, which then got out of hand, with people saying that the images were actual ones for the film production. Long story short, these images then got him the job working on the film. Sometimes life really does move in mysterious ways!

This is the second badge in the Planet Replicas 'Artists Collection' and an excellent choice to follow Carlos Ezquerra. The badge is unmistakable but the angles are different, it's more squashed, with no stars at the top, which gives it it's distinctive Jock style.

Here's a link for you to head over to Planet Replicas website and order your own, unless it's sold out and then you'll have to pester them for another run.

JOCK BADGE

As you will see from the photos below, this comes in a presentation box, with a velvet pouch and a display stand, so you can add it to your other badges.

Don't forget to click on the first picture to start the slideshow.

That's number two in the series sorted, who will be the third artist to join this fantastic series!

The 2000 AD 35th Anniversary Panel - Cardiff Comic Expo 2012

On the weekend of 25th/26th of February 2012, Cardiff held a great weekend for comic fans, under the banner of Cardiff International Comic and Animation Expo. During this convention one of the largest and funniest 2000 AD panels took place.

The hosts for the event were Stacey Whittle and Iz McAuliffe, co-producer of the convention. On the panel were Mike Carroll, John M.Burns, Rob Williams, Gordon Rennie, PJ Holden, Dave Roach, Mike Collins, Mick McMahon and Patrick Goddard.

The following two videos are the panel, excuse the angle but I didn't want loads of audience heads in the shot, so I had to take it from the side. The problem with this, is that a certain Gordon Rennie obscured a few panel members but you can still hear them easily enough.
Also just as I set the shot up I thought that Stacey and Iz would be sat down at the end of the panel but they decided to stand, hence poor Stacey is out of shot!
Remember to turn off your mobile phones, as you wouldn't want to disrupt the panel and one last thing, don't enlarge the screen too much, as this was taken on my non HD video camera!

I hope you enjoy this talk as much as we did on the day!

The Official Judge Dredd Roadshow '95

Looking through some of my folders the other day and I came across these images from the time when the Stallone Judge Dredd film came out and the props from the film were on display at MEM Birmingham.

It was under the banner of a roadshow and took up part of the far wall, on entering the hall. They had numerous items on display alongside t-shirts for sale and also a chance to have your picture taken with someone dressed as Dredd on the Lawmaster with two Judge Hunters.

It was an excellent display and I only wish I took a lot more pictures.

Don't forget to click on the first of the following pictures and then start a slide show.

Here's the one of me messing about with the Judges!

As a bonus, here are some pictures taken from Tower Records and Planet Hollywood around the same period of time. The Tower Records display was a street scene, while the Planet Hollywood was a display of the uniform and Lawmaster.

Hope you enjoyed those and who knows what I will find next in my files.

'Galaxy' Metallic Paint Variant Dredd statue from Unbox Industries

For the 40th anniversary of 2000 AD, Unbox Industries decided to release a limited edition of their McMahon style Dredd but as a Galaxy metallic paint variant. It costs £85 compared to the £65 for the standard colour version.

Here's a link to my blog on the colour version Unbox Dredd which saves me taking certain pictures, mainly of the box!

This new figure was in a limited run of ten but from what I heard, one was accidentally destroyed at the convention, so now there are only nine out there!

Here's a video of me with it and comparing the colour one side by side.

Now for the obligatory photos. Remember to click on the first picture to start a slide show!

A few close ups!

Side by side shots!

Let's now look forward to their Judge Death.
